On this page we publish the updates we make to the milez.biz calculator. Any time we add new data or we change the way the calculator works we will post an update here.

Significant Devaluation of Alaska / Emirates Awards
recently devalued its premium award rates for flights with their frequent flyer partner Emirates
. This change came without warning and took a few people by surprise. It was deemed that the business and first class award rates were too good a deal! The economy class rates remain unchanged.
We have adjusted the milez calculator to reflect the new rates, click here to see what an Emirates redemption between JFK and Dubai costs now
. Previously the business class ticket was 145,000 miles and the first class ticket was 180,000.

Transfer Rates Added
Transfer rates have been added to calculations for American Airlines AAdvantage, ANA Mileage Club and Korean Skypass redemptions. You can find out with one click how many points you need to transfer from your hotel or credit card loyalty program to have enough for a specific flight redemption. Just click on the orange "TRANSFER RATES" button by the calculation results.

Big Qantas Update
Qantas Frequent Flyer
has different award charts for different flights and flight combinations. We have added these four award charts as separate calculators:
- Qantas Classic Awards
- This includes flights with Qantas, Airnorth, Fiji Airways, Air Vanuatu, American Airlines, Emirates and Jetstar
- Qantas Classic Partner Awards
- This includes flights with airberlin, Aer Lingus, Air Niugini, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern, Dragonair, El Al, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Air Lines, Jet Airways, LAN, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines, South African Airways, SriLankan, TAM
- Qantas Classic oneworld Awards
- All the oneworld carriers; these rates are used when there are 2 oneworld carriers involved in the itinerary.
- Jetstar Classic Rewards
- For Jetstar flights only, with Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Pacific
To compare a Sydney to Dubai round trip on the three different charts, click here. Or here between London and Honolulu.

BA North American Short Haul Devaluation
In February British Airways Executive Club
devalued its North American short haul rates. Members used to be able to redeem short flights (under 651 miles one-way) for 4,500 avios. So a round trip between Charlotte and New Orleans
could be redeemed for 9,000 avios in economy and 13,500 avios in business class. These rates have gone up to 15,000 and 22,500 avios respectively. This devaluation only affects short haul flights in North America. Short haul redemptions elsewhere were not devalued, for example, London to Brussels
. Longer flights in North America were also not affected, e.g. Baltimore to Phoenix

Milez has updated the SAS EuroBonus
calculators on its system with the new rates. There have been some significant changes on the Star Alliance
charts, for example flying economy from Southern Africa to the Far East is now 30,000 miles more than previously, cf. Johannesburg to Tokyo.
On the other hand going from Southern Africa to South America or the Caribbean is now 30,000 fewer miles in economy or 40,000 fewer miles in business class, e.g. Cape Town to Buenos Aires
. Another big change is the first class redemption from Australia to Hawaii
(plus 50,000 miles).
The EuroBonus own metal calculator has also been brought up to date. It includes flights with SAS, Wideroe, Atlantic Airways and some Baltic Air flights. EuroBonus members can reach the Faroe Islands
with Atlantic Airways for 20,000 miles round trip. Domestic flights in the Scandinavian countries start at 10,000 miles.

American Airlines Rate Change March 2016
The American Airlines award charts are changing on March 22, 2016. You can already query milez.biz to do comparisons between the old and the new rates!
The calculations for oneworld and partner redemptions do not quite coincide with the rates for American Ailrines own metal calculations. We have therefore added two new American Airlines calculators.

Milez has added one more SkyTeam, calculator to its engine. Sky Pearl (China Southern)
can now query SkyTeam
rates directly on this site too. Hawaii is zoned together with Mexico the Caribbean and Central America. A redemption from Tokyo to Bermuda
is cheaper than a redemption from Taipei to Los Angeles
. Bermuda to Hawaii
or Maldives to South Africa
(same zones respectively) would also be an attractive option. The China Southern own metal calculators have also been brought up to date.
We have added the new zone based ANA Mileage Club
calculations for ANA own metal flights. For Japanese domestic flights, the engine assumes that the flights are direct.

Another SkyTeam Calculator
China Eastern is a partner in the SkyTeam alliance. Eastern Miles members can now query the milez engine for both China Eastern own metal flights as well as flights with SkyTeam partner airlines. Own metal flight award rates are calculated based on distance flown. SkyTeam rates are determined based on zones.

All Delta Air Lines Fare Buckets
Delta Air Lines introduced a Level 1 to Level 5 categorization to its award flights some time ago. Saver, Standard and Peak rates no longer exist as they were replaced by Levels 1, 3 and 5 respectively. Levels 2 and 4 are new. Not every route has all levels but generally any route that involves an American destination will have the 5 levels in both economy and business class. See for example, Boston to Honolulu
SkyTeam routes entirely outside North America still only have one applicable level, for example Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam

More Booking Classes Added to Asiana Calculator
The Asiana Club calculator now also includes the "Business Smartium" and the "First Suite" classes. These classes only apply to Asiana flights, not to Star Alliance flights.
