26 April, 2019There were some recent adjustments to award rates for Emirates flights. These rate changes affected mostly flights in and out of Australia as well as flights to and from the southern part of the Indian sub-continent (e.g. BLR, MAA, Maldives, Sri Lanka).
Alaska Update Part I
3 May, 2019Alaska Mileage Plan has just devalued its Icelandair redemption rates. We took the opportunity to update the other Alaska partner calculators as well (American Airlines, Korean, Emirates, LAN). We have also removed some now defunct calculators from pervious parnerships (Delta, Air France/KLM, AeroMexico). In part II of the Alaska update we will add the other partner calculators for: Condor, Finnair, Hainan, JALVirgin America's Elevate program calculators have been removed since the airline was merged with Alaska Airlines.
Alaska Update Part II
8 May, 2019In part II of the Alaska Mileage Plan update we have added some new partner calculators:- Condor: Alaska Mileage Plan members can redeem flights on Condor, a German carrier. There is a number of unusual routes from North America to Europe. Members in the USA can also use their miles to fly Copndor to Africa or the Middle East.- Japan Airlines: Alaska miles can be used for inner-Asian itineraries and for redemptions across the Pacific Ocean.
- Hainan Airlines: Hainan is a Chinese airline, flights across the Pacific and within Asia can be redeemed.- Finnair: Award flights with Finnair can be redeemed on their extensive network in Europe and even for flights from North America to Asia. for example San Francisco to Beijing.
Miles & More Rates Change Today
9 May, 2019The Miles & More miles award rates are going through a devaluation today (May 9, 2019). Economy class redemptions stay mostly the same but business and first class award rates see a 4-7% increase in miles needed.
Hawaiian Sudden Devaluation
13 May, 2019Hawaiian Airlines changed its award rates without warning a short while ago. The changes include the following main points:
- The award rates are priced on a spectrum, from a minimum rate to a maximum rate, and there are fewer award categories (the milez.biz calculator results show the lowest and highest rates).
- There is a significant spike in redemption rates, especially if you're traveling from the East Coast or your award ticket is in the higher band of the rate spectrum.
- North America is now divided into two zones an Eastern zone (New York and Boston) and a Western zone (all the Hawaiian Airlines West Coast destinations).
Small JAL oneworld Adjustment
15 May, 2019Japan Airlines oneworld recently updated its chart with a small adjustment. This change is reflected in the milez.biz calculations.
To see the difference to the previous chart see here: https://www.jal.co.jp/en/jalmile/use/partner_air/oneworld/miles.html
British Airways Executive Club Calculator
16 July, 2019British Airways Executive Club recently changed its award rates for partner airlines. The partner airlines include most of the oneworld carriers as well as a few others:
- Alaskan Airlines
- Air Italy
- American Airlines
- Cathay Pacific
- LATAM- Malaysia Airlines
- Qatar Airways
- SriLankan Airlines
- Royal Jordanian Airlines
Award tickets on all of these carriers have been devaluated a little bit.The old award rates are still valid for British Airways, Iberia, AerLingus and Vueling. We therefore have two distinct British Airways Executive Club calculators.Compare the two award tables with an example:
London Heathrow to JFKNote that the partner table does not have peak and off-peak prices. In addition, short haul routes in North America (under 650 miles one-way) are redeemed with the old Zone 2 prices.
AeroMexico Club Premier Update
2 September, 2019We have just added the most recent Club Premier SkyTeam rates. AeroMexico Club Premier members can now choose to redeem during high and/or low season. High season redemption rates are about 10-20% higher.
The SkyTeam rates and the rates for AeroMexico's own flights are now the same so that all awards rates are covered by the same calculator.
TAP Frequent Flyer Rates Are Up-To-Date
6 September, 2019The TAP frequent flyer program (no longer called TAP Victoria, but TAP Miles&Go) has had frequent rate changes recently. The latest ones affect the award rates for flights on TAP flights. For example, domestic flights in Portugal can be redeemed for as little as 6,500 miles round trip:
Interestingly with the TAP Miles&Go Star Alliance rates it costs less to fly from Asia to Southern Africa than from Asia to Central Africa:
- Tokyo to Johannesburg in Economy (round trip) can be redeemed for 70,000 miles.
- Whereas Beijing to Nairobi (as an example) will be 90,000 miles in economy.
JAL domestic rates and zones
9 September, 2019We have added the business class rates to our JAL Mileage Bank calculator for domestic redemptions. We have also added a number of routes, that were previously not available on our calculator.
For example: Sapporo Okadama Airport to Rishiri Island.
JAL international rates
10 September, 2019We have adjusted the "base miles" for redemptions on international flights with Japan Airlines' Mileage Bank. The base miles represent the minimum required for a flight on a given route. Japan to Korea flights start at 15,000 miles for the round trip in economy, for example Osaka to Busan. Return trips between North America and Japan can be redeemed for 50,000 miles in economy and 100,000 in business class.
JAL has also introduced Award Ticket PLUS fares. These fares represent the ceiling for a given itinerary. We have included those numbers in our calculator as well.
Frontier Miles Calculator Added
12 September, 2019A Frontier Miles calculator has been added to milez.biz. Domestic award flights with Frontier can be redeemed for 10,000 miles each way in the 'Value' category, and 20,000 miles each way in the 'Standard' category. Frontier Miles has a special category of seats available only to its Elite members: 'Last Seat'.Flights to sun destinations start at 15,000 miles each way in the Value category.
Upcoming THAI Redemption Changes
17 September, 2019THAI's Royal Orchid Plus program is about to change its award tables. Starting October 1, 2019, there is only going to be one awards table for both THAI own metal flights and flights with Star Alliance partner airlines.
Generally, the award rates are going up significantly. There are going to be 4 Asia zones (vs 3 until September 30). There is a new Indian subcontinent award zone. Another interesting zone is the Hawaii zone which now includes Guam and Saipan. Making Saipan to Honolulu award flights, 1-zone redemptions, one of the cheapest amongst Star Alliance programs.THAI has special rates for Australia/NewZealand award tickets to Europe. If the redemption is entirely on THAI (TK) the miles requirement is about 23% lower. E.g. Auckland to Frankfurt. (no stop-overs allowed)
Currently the milez.biz calculator is showing both the old and the new rates, The old rates will disappear in a few weeks.
All Qantas Rates Up To Date
2 October, 2019New Qantas redemption rates came into effect on September 18, 2019. The changes affected all four award tables: Qantas Classic Awards, JetStar Classic Rewards, Partner Classic Rewards, and oneworld Classic Rewards. All calculators on milez.biz have been updated.
Surcharges on Aeroplan Redemptions
15 October, 2019Fees and surcharges often change at a moment's notice and it is difficult for the standard frequent flyer program member to keep track of how high the fees and surcharges on each flight are. We keep track of the fees for the main overseas flights on Aeroplan award tickets and have organized them in an easy-to-view format. Some of these fees have changed significantly in recent times so that we are currently going through an update of this data. One notable difference is that Air China no longer has very low fees and surcharges, but rather now has high surcharges. You can see this on the surcharges page when comparing some of the old surcharges still on the system, with the recent updates. On some flights to Europe the fees have gone up more than tenfold. The fees that apply to Aeroplan awards are often very similar to the ones that apply in other Star Alliance programs. So these numbers are also useful to members of other Star Alliance programs.
